To those of you who have finished the book!

Do you think that O'briens treatment of the medic who nearly let him die is justifiable? Do you think that you would be able to forgive and forget when someone's mistake nearly costed you your own life?

Guys I know that you labeled this "For those of you who have finished the book" so i do not necessarily have to read, but let's try to discuss where the whole class is on the book, so that way we don't give away what happens.

I think it depends on the situation. If i were at war and i got hurt and a scared crapless medic was all i had, then i would give them a chance. If he screwed up, then I can't really blame him that much, espeically since i was stupid enough to get myself in the situation in the first place. I would be mad at them for being stupid and if i had almost died then I would let them know...

I can understand why O'Brien lashed out; he wanted revenge for what the medic did to him. I don't however, think that he handled it in the best way.
It would definitely be a challenge to forgive and forget because death is permanent and the medic almost caused it. Yet I am not the type of person who would lash out at people; I probably wouldn't talk to him for a while. But I would eventually get over it and forgive him.

i think it was necessary for O'Brien to get some revenge on the medic, and if he didnt i think he probably would have driven himself crazy for not. although he did not have the best intentions, the ending turned out well and they forgave each other and called it equal so i dont think the prank was so bad. if o'brien would have caused the medic damage then it could have been a more serious outcome, and then o'brien would have felt even worse for lashing out.

I would have a very difficult time forgiving a medic who nearly let my life go due to a mental error such as not treating for shock. I would want revenge just as O'Brien did.

i think o brien was justified to a certain extent in his revenge. he was almost left to die and when he was taken care of he was hardly treated for his condition at all. it was the medics first battle and first real look at war which is a good excuse, but o brien couldn't stop thinking about how stupid the medic had been and how much pain and sufffering he had put him through. the meic was well liked by the other soldiers probable becuase he was a good guy, but just messed up that one time. o brien couldnt see past that and let his lust fro revenge over take him.

I dont think that revenge is really ever the best way to go about things. I actually think that O'brien kind of made a fool of himself by pulling the trick on the medic. I mean in the end it did not really work because the medic knew that it was him.

This question completely depends on the senerio. In this case i would be pretty ticked and rip the nurse a new one! Also if you don't try to get revenge your an idiot its much more fun and satisfing like a snickers!
