Chauvinists

Does anyone else think that Shelley is slightly harsh on her own sex? Elizabeth, the main female character, easily accepts being given to Victor as his future wife like some kind of chattal. Freaky. And furthermore, later on when Justine is in jail, Elizabeth supports her wholeheartedly. When she is pronounced guilty, Elizabeth suddenly believes her guilty. When she visits her in jail, she suddenly believes her again. Capricious much?

Down with WFCs!!!!

you must remember what time period this book was written. Yes, i'm aware that her mother was a great feminist AND that Shelley was quite unique when it came to her education, but I'm not completely sure that she was on the same bandwagon as her mother.

Elizabeth was adopted by that family when she was just a little girl. It would only be natural that if you are raised to think that such a thing is a right and natural occurence, you wouldn't think anything of it. She is capricious, but I think it's just because she's confused. She doesn't know what to think or feel of the situation.

Because she's a weak female character. Alice Cullen wouldn't have that problem.

Well there you go. We're reading a book about a man playing God and creating monsters, NOT amazingly awesome Vampire stories.

(and i would like to point out that Bella isn't weak, Jacob just sucks and is making life a lot harder than necessary...stupid mutt...)

This is a topic for only the girls in the class. It would take a brave man to comment on this with the fear of getting his head cut off by all of you so I am not going to even say a word.

Touche. And Bella is a pitifully weak character. Just because Jacob SUCKS doesn't mean that she automatically has to fall for the crap Jacob pulls.

I hate her.

Jacob is a stupid, manipulative freak, but Bella is worse. I hate her. A lot.

Tying it back into the Frankenstein discussion, Elizabeth and Bella are both weak female characters.

You guys entertain me. i am seriously glad that i haven't gotten this wrapped up in the books. seeing what it does to you, i think i am going to try really hard not to get wrapped up in them......seriously entertaining....

None of the characters from the love triangle in that book are very smart or good. Two...no all three are selfish, one's insane, two are overprotective against each other, one has about as much common sense as a bag of screws.

They should all explode! Explosions would make that book good. Deaths of crappy stock-characters by explosion is AMAZING!

seriously. have you even been in that sort of situation (minus the vampires and werewolves, of course)? have you ever fallen for someone, and i mean REALLY fallen for them, and then have them leave you without so much as a reason why?

have you ever fallen for someone who has taken care of you during a really hard time?

and have you ever realized that, WHILE you are in said situation, that you don't love the friend who has helped you nearly as much as you love the one who left you?

no. you haven't.

you have no clue what the poor girl is going through, or how she confused bella actually is. you can't say crap

Puckett said...

Courtney...she isn't a poor girl...she's a fictional character. She isn't real.

Okay I think we pretty much ended this argument in class yesterday. Let's agree to disagree, and move on to bigger things.

I'd say better, but there isn't I don't think, so yeah.
